t’s come around again - Prompt is hosting another workshop! This time it will be held in Kresge 2-430 at 7 pm on Wednesday, December 1. The point of the workshop is to give Northwestern students a place to have their writing critiqued outside of the classroom. The best way to learn how to write is to actually write and then have that writing reviewed by people who are writers just like you. And that’s what we do. We split into groups of four or five people and go around the circle workshopping. The author reads their work aloud. Then the listeners tell them what works for them and what doesn’t work. The best way to give constructive criticism is to say what doesn’t work, why, and suggest how it can be fixed. It’s not about personal taste and whether you like the story or not; it’s about whether the story (or poem or essay) works. Workshopping can be stressful, but at Prompt we try to keep it very relaxed and friendly. Come expecting to walk away with suggestions on how to make your piece even better, and you will be satisfied!
